Since the 1990s, CHOP has partnered with the Open Medical Institute in Salzburg, Austria to conduct educational programs that share knowledge with colleagues from around the globe. This partnership was established to foster their professional growth and reduce brain drain of talented medical professionals. Our partnership in Salzburg continues to grow each year, and CHOP faculty now deliver eight clinical and leadership courses per year.
Historically, clinicians from all over the world traveled to Schloss Arenberg to learn from the OMI seminars and build relationships with their international colleagues. Global travel was suddenly curtailed in March 2020 due to COVID-19. After a brief pause to regroup and adapt, CHOP-OMI courses were delivered remotely in 2020 and 2021. In late 2021, in-person Salzburg courses were resumed with all appropriate precautions in place.
