Guidelines for Interpreting During a Developmental or Neuropsychological Assessment: Partnering Between Neuropsychology and Language Services

Chelsea Black, PhD, ABPP-CN, is a board-certified pediatric neuropsychologist in the Neuropsychology and Assessment Program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). She also serves as the supervising neuropsychologist in the Behavioral Neuroscience Core of CHOP’s Center for Human Phenomic Science. She has clinical and research interests in the disruption of mood, language, and executive function processes in pediatric medical disorders, with a particular interest in multiple sclerosis and other neuroinflammatory disorders.

Lauren Demers, PhD, is a pediatric neuropsychologist in the Neuropsychology and Assessment Program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). She provides outpatient neuropsychological consultation and evaluations to pediatric patients with a broad range of medical diagnoses. She has a specific practice focus on increasing access to neuropsychological care.

Sophie Foss, PhD, is a pediatric neuropsychologist in the Neuropsychology and Assessment Program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). She is primarily affiliated with the Congenital Hyperinsulinism Center and the Craniofacial Program, where she provides consultation and assessment services for infants, children, and adolescents. Her clinical interests include neuropsychological development in children with congenital disorders, early childhood assessment, and epilepsy. Her research interests include developmental and fetal origins of brain health and neurocognitive functioning, identification of early predictors of neurodevelopmental outcomes, and the development of executive control and self-regulation capacity in children.

Karen Blanc Friedman, PhD, is a clinical psychologist in the Neuropsychology and Assessment Program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). With extensive experience in early childhood psychological and developmental assessments, she has worked in various roles within the hospital to support diverse patient populations. As a native Spanish speaker from Peru, Karen has developed a deep understanding of the linguistic and cultural considerations necessary for accurate psychological testing. She was involved in a research study aimed at validating a widely used developmental screening instrument in Spanish, and she has worked closely with the Hispanic community in Philadelphia. Karen has also been a guest presenter on these topics at CHOP as well as other academic and health institutions in the region.

Hannah-Lise Tirado Schofield, PhD, ABPP-CN, is a board-certified pediatric neuropsychologist in the Neuropsychology and Assessment Program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). She is primarily affiliated with CHOP’s Cancer Center, where she conducts evaluations with children and adolescents during various stages of cancer treatment, including patients followed within the Childhood Cancer Survivorship Program. Hannah is a bilingually-raised (Spanish and English) provider who is committed to providing thoughtful care to bilingual patients within the Cancer Center. She has a primary clinical and research interest in the neuropsychological outcomes of hematopoietic stem cell transplant and CAR T-cell therapy. Hannah is the director of the Neuropsychology Fellowship at CHOP.
