George Dalembert, MD, MSHP is an attending physician in the Division of General Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. As founding Director of CHOP’s Medical Financial Partnership, he tackles poverty through innovative, cross-sector collaborations to address family needs. Through this work, he and his team have helped the Philadelphia community to claim over one million dollars in tax refunds and public benefits. He is the Associate Director of the CHOP Center for Health Equity. He has appointments as a Faculty Scholar at the CHOP PolicyLab and a Senior Fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics. His academic and research areas of interest are grounded in a passion for advancing health equity, including adolescent health and increasing patient/family engagement in the primary care setting.
Nikia Owens, PhD is the President and CEO of Campaign for Working Families (CWF), providing overall leadership, strategic direction, and planning for the organization. Before joining CWF, Dr. Owens served as the Deputy Executive Director of Family Supports and Basic Needs with the City of Philadelphia’s Community Empowerment and Opportunity (CEO) Office, where her leadership was a driving force to the Office’s implementation of its whole-family approach through the benefit access, workforce, and youth initiatives. Previously, Dr. Owens served as the Managing Director of Financial Empowerment at the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, developing and leading the strategic direction and impact of family income, assets, and financial stability.
