We are in an era of great division in our nation and a general lack of dialogue because of stories that suit our own needs, hanging out with like-minded people, and using social media to reinforce our stories. In the past 10 years, we went from Covey’s Highly Effective People habit of seek first to understand, before trying to be understood, to this. Covey also said that the most effective people in life Think Win-Win. Complaining to like-minded people doesn’t fix anything, but what can we do to heal ourselves in a troubling world?
Kindness is increasingly becoming a lost art. While it is the foundation of all the major religions, kindness is often competing with people’s selfish needs in the busy world we live in today. Unfortunately, many people believe they are justified to ignore human kindness in favor of looking out for themselves. The presentation will include ideas for effective social issue change by appreciating the differences between compassion, empathy, and kindness. When kindness becomes engrained into an organizational culture it improves employee retention, patient outcomes, and results in engaged patients with a desire to return. The focus of this workshop will help the participants to live up to their own value of showing kindness to others in everything they do.
