Dr. Beryl Greywoode, MD is an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and attending physician in the Division of General Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia within the section of Hospitalist Medicine. Born in Nigeria to Sierra Leonean parents, Dr. Greywoode is the second born of five children and immigrated with her family to the United States landing in Florida where she grew up and received her Bachelors and Medical Degree from the University of Florida. She then completed her pediatric training in the Boston Combined Residency Program (Boston Children’s Hospital/Boston Medical Center) and thereafter pursued a Pediatric Infectious Disease Fellowship at Imperial College London in the United Kingdom developing her clinical skills in both tropical health and international relief work. Dr. Greywoode’s path in both medicine and life has offered many lessons learnt through adversity, an aspect of her story she enjoys sharing with others. From experiencing life as a third culture child in the 1980s South to losing many family members during Sierra Leone’s ten year long civil war, and now, navigating an international medical career while balancing the intertwine of marriage, young motherhood, and building business entrepreneurship, Dr. Greywoode is no stranger to the complexity of the human experience. She lives by the power of shared narratives to help heal and encourage and is a fierce believer of the African proverb “a problem shared is a problem half solved.”
Dr. Erika Bauml, MD graduated from Tufts University with a B.A. in Biology. She received her medical degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. Bauml completed her pediatric residency at the Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital, where she was selected as a Chief Resident. She is currently an attending physician in the Division of General Pediatrics at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, working as a general pediatric hospitalist and sedation provider. Additionally, Dr. Bauml serves as the Associate Medical Director of Sedation Services. Outside of the hospital, Dr. Bauml enjoys spending time with her husband and four boys. While sports and cooking are shared family activities, her family is truly passionate about ensuring that the memory of their daughter and sister, Ella Rose, continues to help others. Since its creation four years ago, the Ella Rose Bauml Memorial Fund through the CHOP NICU has raised over $100,000 to assist families with financial needs by providing resources such as food, lodging, safe sleep surfaces, and infant supplies, as well as covering funeral costs for families facing loss.
Dr. Angela Desmond, MD, PhD received her BA in Biology and English from the University of Pennsylvania in 2005 and her doctoral degrees in medicine and immunology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 2015. Dr. Desmond then completed residency in pediatrics at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University/Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. She then returned to Philadelphia for fellowship training in pediatric infectious diseases at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in 2018. For her fellowship research project, she joined the laboratories of Drs. Harvey Friedman and Drew Weissman at the University of Pennsylvania. As an instructor, she has continued this work investigating how an mRNA-lipid nanoparticle vaccine candidate for birthing parents against herpes simplex virus (HSV) can protect neonates against HSV infection in a mouse model. Dr. Desmond’s goal is to use this model to understand how the immune system functions in early life. She also serves as the Physician Well-being Lead for the ID division and co-leader of the CHOP arm of Penn’s Summer Program in Infectious Diseases Research (SPIDR).
Dr. Christina Master, MD, FAAP, CAQSM, FACSM, FAMSSM is Professor of Pediatrics and Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine where she is a member of the Academy of Master Clinicians with over 31 years of pediatric experience. Dr. Master is board-certified in pediatrics, sports medicine, and brain injury medicine, caring for over eight hundred children with concussion annually in her clinical practice. She is the founding co-director of the Minds Matter Concussion Program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, which provides clinical care, community outreach and education, as well as conducts cutting-edge translational clinical research in youth concussion. Her particular research emphasis has been on visual deficits after concussion, as well as identifying objective physiological biomarkers of concussion, in order to target active interventions to improve outcomes for children with concussion, with recent focus on addressing disparities in access to concussion care and mental health outcomes after concussion.
